Stansborough
‘Stansborough Grey’ is one of the rarest fibres in the world coming from a unique breed of grey sheep. They have been selectively bred from an original stock of Swedish Gotland Pelt to become a small herd of a thousand ‘Stansborough Greys’, located on a boutique farm in New Zealand. The fibre is renowned for its silky and lustrous appearance, with beautiful draping qualities.
Not only do these owners selectively breed the sheep, they also have added a small herd of Alpacas, which produce 20 different-coloured yarns that enhance the range of fabrics and designs. While most throws use a natural, un-dyed palette, biodegradable overdyes are sometimes used to increase the colour range and add extra lustre. Angora and Merino is sometimes blended with Stansborough Alpaca and Wool for extra texture and interest.
The owners personally attend to the shearing, hand sorting and grading of the fleece. The yarn is woven in a local mill, and the fabrics have woven on the breeders’ own looms, dating back to the 1890s. It takes two days to prepare these looms for one run of fabric.
The emphasis at this small boutique mill is on quality not quantity. Their home and fashion accessories are collected by connoisseurs of unique textiles around the world.
Stansborough Home and Fashion accessories are brought to the United Arab Emirates exclusively by Falcon Coast. We have selected a small range for which will change quarterly. Please contact us for custom orders or for items we may not stock at this time.
